Junior Triathlon Program
In the Junior Triathlon program, junior triathletes will work with professional triathletes and USAT Certified Coaches. Junior triathletes will learn the fundamental (Silver) and advanced (Gold) skills required for each triathlon discipline while developing fitness, character and a love of the sport. Our junior triathlon program is year-round; monthly and weekly options are also available.
Mondays 4:30-5:30pm at AASA (Swim)
Tuesdays 4:30-5:30pm Outdoor Rides at the Veloway
Thursdays 4:30-6:00pm at AASA (Swim, Strength, Run)
MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
Silver Team: Beginner and/or still growing in the sport, Must be able to swim one lap of a pool (50 yards), run one lap of a track (1/4 mile) and bike two miles. Each participant must have his/her own bicycle and helmet.
Gold Team: Team leaders and more advanced in the sport
Can swim 500+ yards, has completed 5+ tris, mature in the sport, attend 5+ team races, completed 3+ 5ks, possibly race an adult tri and willing to attend Junior Nationals in Ohio if qualified.
Swimming: bathing suit, cap (optional for boys), goggles, kickboard, fins
Biking: comfortable clothing, water bottle, athletic shoes (or biking shoes)
We will use the Watt bikes at AASA on a regular basis. Coaches will inform families when to bring personal bikes to practice.
At various times through the season, we will meet at the Veloway (or other outdoor meeting points). Kids will need their own bike, helmet, and water bottle. Please be sure the bike fits your child and is in good working condition. We can assist with bike sizing adjustments if needed. Be sure the tires are pumped!
Running: appropriate clothing for the weather, running shoes, water bottle.
We recommend elastic shoe laces for faster transitions
