Austin Aquatics and Sports Academy has assembled a world-class team of experts that share our mission, goals, and vision to see each person reach their potential.  Our goal is to bring in accomplished, well-educated, enthusiastic, and committed coaches.

KENNY HUTMAN JR

DRYLAND COACH

With 9 years of experience in the fitness industry, I am happy to be part of ASC in helping increase the performance and athleticism of each swimmer. I have worked with highschool and college athletes of all ages in a variety of competitive sports including baseball and basketball. I am certified with the American council on exercise in addition to a number of specialty certifications. I have a diverse background in training with certifications in TRX functional movement, Integrated stretching and corrective exercise. My goal is to help others achieve their fitness goals through core stability and functional movements, while increasing intensity and resistance. On my free time, I enjoy playing Ice Hockey, and spending time on the river paddle boarding. I hope that my passion and presence here at ASC will have both a competitive and positive impact on all swimmers and members attending.

JORRIC PINKNEY

DRYLAND COACH

Coach Jay graduated from Texas State University in 2018 and 2021 where he received both his bachelor’s and Masters in exercise sports science. He spent time working as a graduate assistant strength coach for Track & field, women’s basketball, and women’s soccer. After graduation, he received his professional certification as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). He is excited to be here to help improve our athlete’s strength, athleticism, and overall experience here at ASC

ADRIAN DAMASCO IV

ASC HEAD COACH/
SENIOR 1 & GOLD 1 LEAD COACH

Coach Adrian makes a return to Austin Swim Club after spending the past year at Blue Tide Aquatics in the Houston area where he led their Senior Group, Bronze Group and assisted with their National Group alongside their head coach Andy Korda. Before his stint as Head Age Group Coach at Austin Swim Club he spent 4 years as Los Angeles Swim Club’s Associate Head Coach. During his tenure he coached numerous Junior National, Futures, Sectional qualifiers, and numerous top 10 age group times. In addition to his role at LASC, he was also an assistant coach for the varsity swim team at Harvard-Westlake where he helped develop numerous CIF Finalists, All-Americans and sent his senior swimmers to various colleges all over the country. Coach Adrian has been selected on numerous camp staffs that include the SoCal All-Star team and National Select Camp. Previously Coach Adrian spent his time at Nitro Swimming working various positions that included assistant coach and Head Age Group Coach. During his tenure, he coached numerous sectional qualifiers and TAGS finalists/record holders. When not coaching you can find Coach Adrian trying out new places to eat, catching a flight to a new city to explore or relaxing at the beach.

JONATHAN BRANDT

ASSOCIATE HEAD COACH / JUNIOR 1 & SILVER 1 LEAD COACH & CO-COACH SENIOR 1 GROUP

Born and raised in San Antonio, Coach Jonathan is excited to be back in South Texas. He has had the pleasure of working with several of the top teams in Texas (Alamo Area Aquatics Association, Texas Ford Aquatics and Lakeside Aquatic Club) during his coaching career.  Jonathan brings over ten years of coaching experience at both the age group and senior levels to ASC’s Coaching Staff. Jonathan focuses on the fundamentals of swimming and developing a strong feel for the water while challenging swimmers to exceed their potential. He incorporates goal setting and important life skills for swimmers to utilize not only in the sport, but in their lives.

Jonathan attended the University of the Incarnate Word and graduated with a degree in Kinesiology and an alternative certification in Physical Education. Jonathan has had a tremendous amount of success early in his career as a USA Swimming Coach. In 2020, he was selected to the list of the Top 50 Age Group Coaches in USA Swimming. His coaching success has also included two 12 and under, and multiple 13 and Over, Futures and Junior National and National Qualifiers, Four 12 and under, and multiple 13 and Over, Sectional Qualifiers, TAGS 2019 Event Record Holder, TAGS 2020 and 2021 Individual High Point Winners, and five TAGS Individual Event Champions.

IVY CLAFLIN

MASTERS COACH/DEVELOPMENTAL COACH – HIGH SCHOOL SKILLS & SPEED & BRONZE 1 LEAD COACH

Coach Ivy is thrilled to be a coach at Austin Swim Club. Swimming has always been an important part of Coach Ivy’s life. She began swimming at a young age and was a competitive swimmer up until she finished her swimming career at Trinity University in 2019. She values the life lessons, resilience, and friendships that kids can develop in the sport of competitive swimming.

Prior to joining the full-time staff at ASC, Ivy worked part-time as a coach for ASC, and full-time as a teacher. She has five years of coaching experience in El Paso and Austin and has worked twice as a counselor at UT’s Longhorns Swim Camp.

Coach Ivy was raised in El Paso, Texas and is an avid EP Chihuahuas baseball fan! When she is not coaching, you can find Ivy cooking, hiking the greenbelt, and exploring Austin’s incredible music and food scenes! She is also virtually in graduate school for Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Auburn University.

REY GARZA

MASTERS COACH / AGE GROUP COACH – GOLD 2 & JUNIOR 2 LEAD COACH
 Coach Rey arrived at ASC in 2020 with a diverse professional background. In addition to 10 years of swim coaching, Coach Rey earned his B.A. at UT Austin and has professional experience in Business, Law, and Journalism. Coach Rey couldn’t be happier since he made coaching swimming his full-time passion, as he says nothing lights up his life like the feeling of guiding our ASC athletes to their own successes.

As a swimming instructor and coach, Coach Rey has worked with swimmers of all ages and varied individual needs. Coach Rey recognizes that each athlete is unique and that a carefully tailored approach to training, like the kind he’s become familiar with at ASC, produces the best results. As a Coach of young athletes, he sees fast swimming as a by-product of developing disciplined, thoughtful, and collaborative individuals.

Coach Rey lives in Austin with his wife, Ashley, and when he is not writing swim sets or reading studies on swimming anatomy, he enjoys hiking, cooking, and playing music on any of his 5 favorite instruments!

SETH RYHERD

MASTERS COACH / DEVELOPMENTAL COACH–SILVER 2 & SENIOR 3 LEAD COACH

Coach Seth grew up in San Antonio and was homeschooled until he reached the age to enter high school and asked to attend public school. He enjoyed the camaraderie of his high school team and was a two year team co-captain. A stand out breaststroker and IM swimmer, Seth also has a passion for water polo.
Seth swam for Whitworth University, and in his freshman season there took first in the 200 breast at the Northwest Conference finals. When the pandemic brought him back to Texas the following year, he decided to finish his education in Austin. He has quickly grown to love Austin and coaching with the ASC.

DAX HILL

DIRECTOR OF SKILLS DEVELOPMENT AND COMMUNITY OUTREACH 

 Dax grew up in the Round Rock area playing basketball and swimming which is a unique combination. Dax decided to focus on swimming when he graduated from high school and was recruited by the University of Texas where he swam for Eddie Reese from 2009 through 2013. He was a 4-time NCAA champion and multiple time Big 12 champion. In addition, Dax was a 2-time World University Games Gold Medalist. Dax has spent the last 7 years studying the sport of swimming. He has interviewed numerous world class coaches to understand their approach to training and the technique development skills that they teach their athletes. Dax has turned all this information into an approach to helping young athletes improve their swimming skills resulting in more rapid improvement in their swimming results.

As Director of Skills Development, Dax will be responsible for working with the Senior 1, 2 and 3 Groups and Junior 1 and 2 groups on a weekly basis and will work with each of our Development groups on a bi-weekly basis specifically on perfecting their swimming skills and stroke technique utilizing the knowledge and approaches he has developed over the last 7 years. In addition, Dax will partner with the lead coaches of each of our age groups to incorporate skills development fully into all our training activities. This role will be unique to Austin Swim Club and will provide our young athletes an additional level of development not available to other club swimmers and club programs.

In the part of his role dedicated to Community Outreach, Dax will lead our efforts to reach young people in East Austin and parts of Round Rock where we will offer the opportunity for these young people who cannot afford to be a part of club swim team to be able to participate in the sport of swimming.
