Wisdom of Change

“If you do tomorrow what you did today, than you will get tomorrow what you got today.”  –Benjamin Franklin

We have all been burned by this quote at some point mostly because we are creatures of habit and it’s hard for to break a routine. For many athletes, by the time they realize they are stuck in a pattern, it’s too late.

The most common question I’m asked is, “How do I overcome plateaus?”
My answer is very simple. “Change!”

Take a different approach or else you should expect the same results. It’s amazing what the human body can endure, but it is even more amazing how the body can adapt. What you thought was a very effective workout six months ago, is probably not as effective now.

Here’s something else I’m asked often:
“It doesn’t make sense coach. The plan worked so well last year, so why am I not improving or getting any faster?”

The reason top athletes continue to excel is because they are always trying to find ways to get better, even during a breakout season. They are obsessed with critiquing the process and rarely focusing on the results. This mindset will always keep those athletes on the incline.

I mean how many times is Tiger Woods going to change his swing?
The real question is, “Why aren’t you working on yours?”

It is simple. Change is hard and most people like easy. But you can make that change and when you do, when you take that step, things start getting out of your way. Doors start opening up and the life you wanted to live is now the life you are living.

You become that person people look to as an example of success.

Just a warning though… people will start asking you “How do I overcome plateaus?”

Your answer? Change.
